Sometimes it can feel like a major uphill climb to get started with something new online. I get questions like this a lot. It’s some version of, “Pat, you have such a great personality and it’s such a big part of your success. How can I hope to replicate what you do and your success when I’m, well, me?” Which, first of all, thank you. Secondly, and this sounds simpler than it is, but I’m me and you’re you. I don’t try to pretend to be anyone else, and most importantly, I’m always laser-focused on the why behind doing what I do—which is helping you.
Our guest today is a great example of being open, honest, and genuine, and most importantly feeding everything he does by answering that question of why. Today we’ve got my longtime friend Chase Reeves on the show. I knew him way back when as a designer helping me build out smartpassiveincome.com. Today, he’s transitioned full time into becoming a niche reviewer for travel bags and accessories on his YouTube channel and his website, matterful.co.
What becomes clear when you listen to my conversation with Chase is that reviewing bags is for him about so much more than trying to make a quick buck. He can’t help but wax philosophical about what a bag means for your lifestyle, why he likes the products he likes, and how we wants to help people find something that will work for them. It’s not so much about “this is good” or “this is bad.” Instead, it’s about “this might appeal to some of you who are looking for X,” or, “this is a good fit if you need Y.”
We talk about how being an effective curator is the key to being an effective niche reviewer. His enthusiasm literally jumps out of your headset when you listen to him, so make sure you check this one out because I’m sure you’ll have as much fun hearing it as I did recording it.
