Intuit has done it again. Their improvements have hosed my long established form templates and I haven't found a way to fix the problem. In order to save any changes, it is now necessary to log into some server out on the Interwebs and upload the template. Yeah, okay, but when I'm signed in the "save" still fails. To make matters worse, my now ugly estimates and invoices can't be saved as PDF directly from the program. I found a workaround by using email. Yes, the PDF printer apparently works for email, but not from the "Print" dialog. Great, except when I email to myself, the customer's email is changed to my email address. The advertising is now front and center; there is now a pane (pain?) in the lower left corner gushing about QB's latest offer. Ads in my previous version (2010) were popups that needed to be dismissed before any work could progress. Those are still there, too. 2010 was the first version I'd seen that, and was one of the reasons I waited 6 years to update. Customized reports for years past don't seem to populate correctly. Canceled memorized transactions mysteriously reappear as pending. And so on... The default appearance and navigation is a little goofy. There is the standard menu bar across the top that gives every option the program offers, which is a lot. Then there's the familiar QB flow chart menu in the main screen. And now we have a "Shortcuts" bar to the left that contains the very same options as the other locations. Perhaps it's only there to display the ad at the bottom and to remind me to order checks - appears twice! Not to be left out, the standard menu also has advertising buried within, but now with a new and improved "Special Offers" choice right next to the "Help" menu. The flow chart contains its own redundant pitches for Intuit's products, and did I mention I don't like the ads? The image I've included shows the 10 unnecessary upsells that appear as soon as QB is opened. I run a small business. I don't have time for all the screwing around with a software that seems to have a mind of its own. I left 2 stars because at least the upgrade didn't destroy my data and it is still mostly functional. There has to be something better than this and hopefully I'll find it before the 2022 version arrives. It was the last time.

Currently only using this program for A/R, so on that note, program works great, especially with QuickBooks creditcard services (which are expensive ) but I can email invoices with a pay link, and payments are posted directly into the programs smoothly (with a few steps). I'm new to this credit card processing, but I'm impressed and so are my clients. They find it easy to use and appreciate that they don't have to create an account to pay and how "securely" it processes the transaction. I have not view other services (or other companies) but I'm happy how this works. PS: Switching from QuickBooks 2008 worked smoothly.

So I have used QB for years. It's a good, basic accounting software. Here's my frustration with Intuit. My 2013 version was working just fine. No issues whatsoever. Until it became 3 years old. At that point, Intuit decided for me that it was obsolete and stopped supporting downloads from my bank and credit cards. Which were working just fine. I HATE the fact that I am FORCED to upgrade every 3 years. I honestly don;t care if you stop supporting the product as far as tech support, but why try to fix a non-broken product? Let me decide when to upgrade. Oh, and the "Free year of quickbooks online"? Here's the disclaimer buried at the bottom of the page: Please note: QuickBooks Online Essentials and QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2016 work independently; data entered in one does not sync to the other. So what's the point of having a desktop and online version if they don't talk to each other?

Upgrade with confidence.. time saved is money earned

I am a QuickBooks user for many years when it was the 99 version. My last version upgrade was 2009. After avoiding the any upgrades for years, I upgraded to windows 10 and decided that it was better to also upgrade the accounting software.

With much trepidation I could not get the 3 user pack so I had to buy 3 separate disc versions of the 2016 to network them. 2 at office (networked) and 1 at home which is what I have been doing for the past 14 years.

As usual, I read all the negative reviews (more honest and real) and then decided to bite the bullet.

Shipping was fast as usual from amazon.

Installation: at home first-no problem, upgraded the company file and worked easily, much improved interface, faster smoother and faster back up,

Now to the office; No problem, smooth upgrade, networked and worked without a problem. Intuitive, easy to figure out as an old user, my secretary had no problem with the upgraded software. No training necessary!

The ability to attach scanned invoices and any bill or paper to cheques or invoices is a blessing for record keeping. Bounced cheques can be easily tracked. Had one so far in about 6 months.

Back up is significantly faster and so is the software.

The new layout is very informative, tracking payment for the day, grouping payment history of customer or vendor, calendar, snapshot, bill tracker, etc really nice.

Emailing of invoices without having to use intuit servers, what a joy to use!

One Concern: I saw a QB dataserviceuser19 user as a user on my system and since I did not authorise it, I deleted the user.

    Word of advice
DO NOT DO THAT, I was immediately locked out of the system and had to reinstall and reboot to regain access.
If this can be explained it would be helpful.

One problem- when I back up the company file, I do not see the scanned attachments in the restored file unless I go to the original computer that I had scanned it on. I can see there is an attachment and the name of it but the actual image is not backed up.

If this can be changed so the actual file can be backed up as an option as well then I would say 5 stars. For now **** stars.

    Ignore the naysayers.

A very good upgrade well done intuit !

UPDATE 2017-08-20 NOW I am feeling it!
BEWARE that QB accountant 2015 will not work with this version, You need QB accountant 2016 or later. Guess what? Intuit does not sell 2017Qb accountant just so! Your accountant needs to register with THEM! He needs to do their exam, to be able to buy Quickbooks accountant 2017! He needs to be a "certified QB advisor" and pay a yearly $349 and can only use it with ONE computer! LOL...Is this LEGAL? Sounds like what Microsoft did with IExplorer years ago. No wonder I could not find a later version than 2015 on Amazon. I now have to send my original backup file to my accountant, do nothing while he works on it, then import it..I am now back to the old days of TIME WASTING and VERY VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Guess what? If your accountant does NOT want to be a Qbadvisor or you need to access more then ONE computer you get to call a special number and pay $499.00 ( maybe). PURE corporate GREED and exploitation. I guess the naysayers were right after all! VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED.

This is not an accounting program. It's an instrument of torture. Every "improvement" or update imposed on the user results in HOURS of I.T. trouble and searches for workarounds. The newest version requires constantly changing, complex passwords for each company one opens on QB. If you are a bookkeeping or accounting professional, you will be engaged in time-consuming password management--simply because QB forces it. Sharing files with clients or CPAs will be ridiculously and needlessly complex. No competent professional these days hasn't already addressed security issues internally: but QB has taken it upon themselves to force really onerous procedures on its client base. Can there really be no way to turn this off in future editions or updates? And changing between companies is an exercise in terrible frustration: either one "doesn't have security permissions to delete a file" (which nobody is TRYING TO DO--just change between files!) or there's an error code that doesn't even come up when it's plugged in to any search engine. It now takes up to 5 attempts to ignore 2 separate error messages to switch to a different QB company file. Because of the password protocol changes hidden like a Trojan Horse in the recent product upgrade I'm now frightened to download any of Intuit's suggested file doctors and fixes. I can't trust them anymore not to make it all worse. How can I proceed with confidential client issues when I can't stay on top of what Intuit is doing to its client base? Intuit's program has now gotten so intrusive because of its connection to the internet that it creates its own problems. There are no material accounting or bookkeeping enhancements or improvements from prior versions--but running a payroll program through QB not only forces product upgrades, it also forces changes on the way all users run their own businesses. To be treated this way as a loyal QB user is preposterous. Has anybody found a workable alternative? And I really hope an Intuit representative doesn't "apologize" to me for my inconvenience and forward my concerns to their programmers. They know what's wrong. They just don't care. Intuit can fix all the problems they create by just leaving me and my business to use my own judgment!
